At 10x on BTC: Minimal leverage — close to spot
Liq distance (10.00%) is more than 4× the normal daily ATR.
Pure-math model: Liquidation price = entry × (1 ∓ 1/leverage). Distance = (1/leverage) × 100%. Real exchanges add ~0.4-0.6% maintenance margin that brings liquidation slightly closer in practice.
Leverage borrows the exchange’s capital so a small margin controls a much larger position. At 10× leverage, ₹10,000 margin controls a ₹1,00,000 position. The exchange tolerates only so much loss before forcibly closing the trade — that point is your liquidation price.
Pure-math liquidation distance by leverage (1/leverage)
| Leverage | % to Liq | BTC at $95K | ETH at $3.5K |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2x | 50% | $47,500 | $1750 |
| 5x | 20% | $76,000 | $2800 |
| 10x | 10% | $85,500 | $3150 |
| 25x | 4% | $91,200 | $3360 |
| 50x | 2% | $93,100 | $3430 |
| 100x | 1% | $94,050 | $3465 |
| 200x | 0.5% | $94,525 | $3483 |
| 250x | 0.4% | $94,620 | $3486 |
A 100× position liquidates on a 0.5% move. Bitcoin’s 1-minute candle commonly exceeds 0.5% during news, ETF flow events, or unwinds. Even with a perfect entry, the exchange’s wick to the liquidation cluster (visible on most liquidation heatmaps) will close your position before the trade plays out. This is why professional traders rarely exceed 10×.
Pure-math liquidation = entry × (1 − 1/leverage) for longs, or entry × (1 + 1/leverage) for shorts. Distance to liquidation as a percentage is simply 100 ÷ leverage. Real exchanges add a 0.4-0.6% maintenance margin rate that brings liquidation slightly closer in practice.
Yes. FIU-IND-registered exchanges (CoinDCX, Bitbns) offer crypto perpetual futures with leverage. Profits are taxed at 30% flat under Section 115BBH, with 1% TDS on transfers above ₹10K (specified persons) or ₹50K threshold.
The liquidation calculation is a snapshot. Funding rates (typically 0.01-0.10% per 8h) effectively reduce your margin over time, bringing liquidation closer. For positions held more than 24 hours, factor 0.05-0.30% of additional “effective loss” per day.
